Your bill and your minutes
What you pay, when you pay it, and what happens when your plan’s minutes run out.
Your bill, your trial and how to cancel
To choose a plan and pay for it, see Your plan.
A free trial we set up for you is not charged; see Your plan.
If the business gets a new owner, the plan and the card on file stay as they are until the new owner changes the payment method.
Before you pay
Open Settings in the app and choose Plan. When a trial is offered, the screen says the day it ends and what you pay each month after it. If a trial’s minutes run out before its last day, calls are turned away until the paid plan starts. To start it sooner, choose Start the paid plan now on the Plan screen.
The free trial
Your first month is free. Choose a plan and add a payment method to start. Nothing is charged until your trial ends, and we remind you 7 days and 3 days before. Cancel any time before then and you pay nothing. Each business gets one free trial.
The trial includes your plan’s minutes, up to 500: 100 on Solo, 400 on Solo Plus and 500 on Team and Team Plus. The plan screen shows when it ends and the first charge. Extra minutes are off during the trial.
During a trial
- The plan screen shows the day your trial ends.
- If a paid plan follows your trial, a notice in the app tells you a few days before: the day, the plan and its monthly price.
- To start paying sooner, choose Start the paid plan now, in the web app or the app where it’s offered.
Change your plan
When the plan screen shows Change plan, choose it and pick the plan you want. A sheet shows what you would pay, and you confirm it there. If it shows Compare plans instead, write to us from Help to change it.
- Moving up starts now and is charged today. The sheet shows the amount, and your bill date moves to today.
- Moving down starts now too. Nothing is charged today, and the unused part of your old plan is a credit on your next bill.
- During a trial, a change keeps your trial’s end date. Nothing is charged until then.
- Outside a trial, you can change your plan once in each billing month. If you already have, the sheet tells you when you can change it again.
If a payment fails
When a payment fails, we tell you by push and email, on the day it fails, again two days before calls stop, and when they do. The plan screen says by which day to choose Update payment method. After that day, your receptionist stops answering until the plan is paid, and callers hear that you can’t take their call.
While it is stopped, turn off forwarding so calls ring your phone. When the payment goes through, your receptionist answers again and we tell you so.
Cancel
- Turn forwarding off first, and test it. See Pause your receptionist, and turn it off for good.
- Open Settings, choose Plan, then Manage subscription, in the web app or the app where it’s offered. You cancel on the page that opens.
Once your plan is set to end, the plan screen shows the day.
What stops, and what stays
- When the plan ends, your receptionist stops answering. Callers still forwarded to it hear that your business can’t take their call, and the call ends.
- Your calls and business facts stay in the app. They’re deleted on the schedule in What we keep, and for how long.
- To come back, choose a plan again on the same screen. There’s no second free trial.
A charge looks wrong
Write to us with your business name and the charge’s date and amount. Never send card numbers.
What each plan includes
A period is your monthly billing period. Each amount below starts again with a new period, and the plan screen shows what is left. Voice typing is included too.

The help answers are those in the app’s help chat. Transferred minutes are the time a call spends with a person on your team, rounded up to whole minutes for each person; when used up, your receptionist takes a message instead. Each answered call uses at least 1 minute, then is timed to the second. A call under 10 seconds, like a wrong number or a hang-up, doesn’t use your minutes, up to your plan’s amount each period; after that, each counts as 1 minute. A free trial and the time before you choose a plan include less; the app says so.
When your minutes run out
Your plan includes minutes for each monthly period, or for the whole free trial. The plan screen’s This period card shows how many you’ve used and how many are left.
- When you’ve used eighty percent of them, and again when they’re used up, a notice shows on Home and the plan screen, and by email or on your phone if you set up notifications.
- Once they’re used up, your receptionist stops answering until the next period starts. Callers hear a short message to call back later. On plans with voicemail, callers can leave a message instead. It shows in Inbox; see Voicemail. The plan screen lists each call they made.
- During a free trial, it stops answering until your paid plan starts. Start the paid plan now starts it at once, in the web app or the app where it’s offered.
- On a free trial we set up for you, your receptionist stops answering when the trial minutes are used up. If the plan screen offers plans, choose a plan to answer calls again; if it doesn’t, we’ll be in touch about what comes next.
- Some plans let you switch on Extra minutes. Calls then keep being answered after your plan’s minutes, charged by the minute, up to the monthly limit you set. Once that limit is reached, callers hear the same short message. Each plan has its own price for an extra minute, shown on the plan screen and the pricing page. Team and Team Plus charge less than Solo and Solo Plus.
Stopping your receptionist never waits on a payment: you turn forwarding off at your phone company, with or without a plan. See Pause your receptionist, and turn it off for good.
