Test your receptionist
Test it in the app first, then with a phone call, then check your forwarding.
Make a test call from the app
Open Home, choose Make a test call (or Try your receptionist in Inbox), press Call from the app on the page that opens and allow the microphone. A test lasts up to 7 minutes, on free test minutes.
- Captions shows what is said.
- Under Call as, Returning caller plays a known caller’s greeting.
- Changed your greeting or voice? Save, then use Hear it in a call.
It’s in Inbox as Test call · In the app. Tests appear in Inbox with a transcript, wherever the sound plays: speaker, earpiece or headphones.
Test from your phone
For the real line, press Call from your phone instead, then Call from your phone: it dials (a computer copies it). Call within five minutes: it answers from your business facts; the call is real and in Inbox.
If you hang up before it answers, the Test page says so and the step stays to do: call again and stay on the line.
Call your receptionist number
When live calling is set up for your business, Home’s Ready for calls card names your receptionist’s number. Call it from any phone. It’s a real call. Tests appear in Inbox with a transcript.
- No number on Home? Get your number first: open Phone number in Settings and choose Get my number.
- A busy signal? If Answer calls from anyone is off under Who can call, only test calls are answered. Contact support if it’s on.
Test your forwarding
- From a different phone, call your business number: the one you forward.
- If you forward calls you don’t answer, let it ring unanswered; if the steps cover a phone that’s off, also try it switched off.
- If you forward every call, your phone shouldn’t ring.
- Check Inbox for the new call.
Home’s setup list has a Call forwarding row for this check: save your business number, start a check, then call it from a different phone.
Test again after changing forwarding, plan or phone.
